An essential companion piece to the corporate smoke 'n mirrors of "Kroniek van een Sprookje" if you're an Efteling nerd (guilty).
Van Binnendijk's chronicle is well-structured, charmingly told and greatly empathetic to the people behind the scenes of the most beloved Dutch theme park of all time. And I'm friends with enough international theme park nerds to know this is a global phenomenon.
Most revealing, reading this book, is a glimpse into 1950s labor (mal)practices and some stunning institutionalized sexism.
Gonna keep an ear out for Theo's voice in the Forbidden City and the Children's Railway next time I'm at the park!
